C2E2 Panel Coverage - 'True Blood'
Reported by Outsiders - 04:23 PM 2011.03.20
![]() ![]() The Chicago Comic And Entertainment Expo took place this weekend in Chicago and ENI checked out the "True Blood" panel with Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte, Kristin Bauer as Pam De Beaufort and Brit Morgan as Debbie Pelt. How did you get involved with "True Blood?" Sam: "About 3 years ago and it was HBO and Alan Ball from a script he had written." "The character Sam and my name is Sam and it hurt me and everyone wanted to do this show cause the script was so good and I read on tape. Alan called and said he wanted to test me and I read with Alan and I read with HBO and I found out the same day I got it." Kristin: "HBO, Alan Ball, Vampires and that was enough." I read and they wanted me to come back and I figured they were going to add and they wouldn't tell me why and I did the same thing. I went to the Phillipines to shoot a movie and I got a text." "I'm the last person to hear anything and the producer of the movie tells me that I start work on something else tomorrow." "I asked what and she says "True Blood" and I went back with a 19 hour difference and read again and went to masters to get my fangs fitted." Sam comments about Kristin's clothes and they joke around that Sam doesn't get to wear clothes on the show. Brit: "I auditioned and the show was already a hit and I loved the character and and was very nervous and blew it. I studdered and I did my best and Alan saw something in me and he called me back for another read and I nailed it perfectly and got it." "Why do you think people love the show so much?" Sam: "The show has some many genres of being funny and lot of nudity and blood and it's a cultural thing and the real Vampire people and the real Shape-Shifter people have stuck around." Kristin: "Everything is done so well and the quality from HBO is incredible." Sam: "Alan knows how to hire the right people for make-up, hair, clothing. Everything you see is the best." Kristin: "Vampires are all around us in shows and movies and we kinda of love it." How does the show work with real animals? Kristin: "We had the wolves and checked out how they live." Sam: "We had a cougar on the show a few years ago and that was cool." Do you really get into your characters?" Sam: "I write Alan Ball this five page paper on shape-shifters and how it effects my character and to this day I still don't think he has read it." "But I would like them to expand on shape-shifters and I will be with a new woman this season. But if you are a waitress at my bar, you will die." Kristin: "The first time you really saw my character and I had this huge gash on the side on my face and wearing that did hurt but as long as I got covered in blood it was great!" Sam: "I'm getting body make-up and trying to make it feel like on a date but not trying to hook-up so I'll watch surf videos and drink to take my mind off it." "Would you ever want to become a Vampire?" Kristin: "I always wanted to do it because you don't have to worry about sickness and health but I could never see myself going all the way with it." What will happen with Lafayette?" Sam: "You want a sneak but don't want a sneak but Lafayette was supposed to die at the end of season 1. It was supposed to be his foot sticking out of the car but he plays the part so well that Alan couldn't kill him off." Sam: "Remember I told Lafayette, "Don't cross me" or "Cross me and die" and that was Lafayette and his visions from the Vampire blood but that will come up again in the later episodes." Is Sam always going to be getting it on with Terra? Sam: "The last time we had sex was at 6 in the morning. I'm standing there with a robe and drinking a cup of coffee and I just took the robe off and they yell, "Action!" "I mean to do that at 6 in the morning isn't something not to laugh at..." Will we see the 'King of Louisiana' again? Kristin: "I'm sure we will and when he returns he will be even more pissed and even more crazier." Is Sam basically going to be naked in every episode and how does your family feel about it? Sam: "My Mom doesn't say anything to me about it. My Dad will text me and say, "Good show, Sam." But if you remember the first episode with the chains? I couldn't believe that scene made it on air." Kristin: "My Grandmother is the only one I know from my family who watches it. She tells me that she thinks its fun!" For the women, do you ever have say in what your characters will and will not do? Kristin: "We do have say in what the characters but the writers and director are on the set and they will walk through the lines with us and then we will act it out with the lines. I'll just do and they will say they like it. I have never felt uncomfortable with the lines or what was happening." Brit: "I was only in 5 episodes but I wanted to be liked but not liked as a character. Your sort of like a lawyer for your character where your defending your character." Will Erik ever buy Pam a new set of pumps? Kristin: "Erik is going through some changes this season which follows the book and he has lost some of his memory." What about location shoots and how much does the fourth season follow the fourth book? Sam: "We shoot some stuff in Louisiana and shot mostly in LA and this season will follow the fourth book to a certain point." "This year we built most of the set in and around LA but what you see of those scenes showing us running around naked, it's freezing cold! It's only like 30 degrees!" Kristin: "I went there and it is cold..." Sam: "You guys are in Chicago so you guys are used to running around naked in the cold..." How hot is Alexander Skarsgård? Kristin: "He is an 11 but has the coolest personality and I get along with him so well." Brit: "Hmmm..." Sam, how did you put together the fight scene in the bar and how was Dexter? Sam: "I was pissed off that day about something and it was like a 7 hour shoot cause it was made up of different angles to shoot." "And I was on Dexter in like the second episode and wrapped in cellophane for about 5 hours. I started losing feeling in my arms and legs after 4 hours." Will we ever see how Pam and Erik came about? Kristin: "I want to see this happen and I hope they get around in flash-backs or something that shows how all of this happened and we came together." We apologize but due to problems with our audio recording, we lost the final 5 minutes of this panel. We can assure you that simple questions where asked and nothing new was said about the next season.
