The Search For Captain America Continues Without John Krasinski
Reported by Outsiders - 11:17 PM 2010.03.09

We recently reported that actor John Krasinski (NBC’s The Office) was very close to locking in the role of Steve Rogers in the upcoming "The First Avenger: Captain America" movie from Paramount Pictures. It was sourced that "John has read 4 times and is doing screen tests. He has screen tested 2 times so far. It's very likely that he will be the new Captain America". This may not be the case...

Mike Fleming @ Deadline is reporting that Marvel has slightly expanded its search to include Chris Evans, who played Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four films. Besides Evans, there are two actors who Marvel is lining up as serious candidates for the part and one of them is not John Krasinski.

Marvel is looking at both Mike Vogel (pictured left) and Garrett Hedlund (pictured right) to play Captain America.

Marvel originally wanted Hedlund to audition but he couldn't test at first because of scheduling. Fleming is also stating that Hedlund's Reps complained when Marvel informed them that the job would include options for 9 future films and a salary of only around $300,000 so it looks as if Marvel may have to up the stakes if they want him bad enough.
