Bardem No Longer In 'The Dark Tower'; Russell Crowe Taking Over Lead?
Reported by Outsiders - 03:03 PM 2012.08.03

Word is that Warner Bros. will be getting a new script from Akiva Goldsman for Steven King's Western The Dark Tower. The studio will then have to make a decision on whether or not to give the green light it or tell director Ron Howard and producers Brian Grazer and Goldsman no chance.

Another problem facing the project is that Javier Bardem is no longer playing the role of the gunslinger Roland Deschain. The studio is in talks with Russell Crowe about taking over the part. No deal has been made yet but this will weigh in the studios decision on whether to take a leap on a nine-volume book that has a huge following, with Howard, King and their partners planning a multi-platform presentation that could be unforgettable. The story will be told through three films and two limited run TV series.
