Abrams Comments About Screening 'Star Trek Into Darkness' For Dying Fan

Reported by Outsiders - 2013.01.07

In this day and age, we take a lot of things for granted and we don't go out of our way to help another out unless we have something to gain from it all. This past week, director J.J. Abrams showed us that is not always the case when he gave a dying man his last wish of screening Star Trek Into Darkness for a terminally ill Star Trek fan with cancer.

The fan was Daniel Craft, 42 and a longtime supporter of Subway Cinema and the New York Asian Film Festival. His friend posted online via Reddit and Twitter about Craft wanted to see the new Star Trek movie or at least a trailer for it and this information made it all the way to Abrams. Abrams responded privately, and a rep for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind Star Trek, took a DVD with an early cut to Craftís home for a special screening of the film that isnít coming out until May. Craft passed away two days later.

When asked about the experience during the TCA panel, Abrams quoted on saying "It's very sensitive" and that is was "unbelievably touching" to have been asked and clearly was overwhelmed by the opportunity and responsibility to grant a dying manís wish.

You have my whole-hearted respect, Mr. Abrams.
