Elysium - #1 TV Spot

Reported by Outsiders - 2013.06.11

"Elysium," Neill Blomkamp's latest sci-fi thriller starring Matt Damon as a futuristic ghetto drifter who embarks on a dangerous mission to break into a heavily-guarded space station for the filthy rich, is coming to theaters on August 9th. And while you wait with baited breath, here's something to tide you over until then: the film's very first 30-second TV spot, which recently aired during the NBA finals. The commercial contains some exhilarating new footage with Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley -- plus, a gun-toting robot gets blasted into tiny pieces. Awesome!

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (JODIE FOSTER), a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (MATT DAMON) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, Sharlto Copley
