Director David R. Ellis Has Died At The Age Of 60

60 year old director David R. Ellis has passed away suddenly in Johannesburg, South Africa. Cause of death is not yet known.

The director was in South Africa preparing to direct the film KITE, the live-action adaptation of the 1998 Japanese anime which was set to reunite Ellis with Samuel L. Jackson. Ellis started his career as an actor, stuntman and stunt coordinator before moving on to 2nd unit directing which included Waterworld, The Matrix Reloaded and Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.

His first directing job was the Disney film Homeward Bound 2: Lost In San Francisco in 1996 followed by a string of movies over the years including Final Destination 2, Cellular, Snakes On A Plane, Asylum, The Final Destination, Shark Night 3D in 2011. He finished 2nd unit directing on the upcoming Winter’s Tale starring Colin Farrell, Will Smith, Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe.
