Paramount Confirms Date Change for Star Trek To May 2009

Paramount has officially confirmed for us the reports made by Variety yesterday that the new Star Trek movie's release date has been moved from December 25, 2008 to May 8, 2009. Perhaps now with the writers strike over, this will give J.J. Abrams a chance to add a role in the movie for actor William Shatner who has strongly expressed a desire to be somehow included in this latest Trek project along with cast alum Leonard Nimoy.
We also can't help but wonder if this past year’s Aliens vs. Predator somewhat lackluster Christmas Day opening box-office earnings might have had an impact on Paramount's decision.
