Watchmen doesn't open until Friday, but Fandango is already seeing strong advance ticket sales for the film, comprising 61% of all sales on Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination.
Advance tickets for director Zack Snyder's Watchmen are far outpacing advance tickets sold for Snyder's previous movie, 300, at the same point in that film's sales cycle. Dozens of midnight Thursday night showtimes for the film are sold out on Fandango, from Albany, Georgia to Dublin, California.
As a bonus, moviegoers purchasing tickets for Watchmen or Watchmen: The IMAX Experience on Fandango will receive a free download of bonus content on iTunes, including the first chapter of Watchmen Motion Comics plus a sneak peek of Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter. Details of the promotion are available at www.fandango.com/promo/watchmen.
Fans can also enter a Fandango sweepstakes for a chance to win the ultimate Watchmen fan pack, including a limited edition Watchmen-branded Xbox 360 Console, a Myvu Personal Media Viewer, the film's soundtrack and other great prizes. Details can be found at www.fandango.com/sweepstakes/watchmen.
Over the weekend, Fandango surveyed nearly 1,000 moviegoers planning to watch the Watchmen. Among the findings (as of March 2 at 11:00 a.m. PT):
-- 60% have read the Watchmen graphic novel;
-- 85% say the online Watchmen clips and trailers made them more excited
to see the movie;
-- 57% plan to see Watchmen with a group of friends;
-- 71% are planning a get together before or after the movie;
-- 85% had seen director Zack Snyder's previous movie, 300, on the big
screen;
-- 73% are male; 65% are 18-34.
