Studio Still Has Faith In Tom Cruise For M:I-4
Reported by Jay Cochran - 04:57 PM 2010.07.14
According to THR, Paramount Pictures still has complete faith in "Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise to deliver at the box-office when it comes to the next installment in the M:I movie franchise, despite the under-performance here at the U.S. box-office for Cruises latest movie "Knight and Day." We absolutely are excited about having Tom Cruise star in this movie," is how Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore put it Tuesday. Yet despite that statement some say the studio is closely monitoring the performance of "Knight and Day" overseas to see if Cruise still retains his longtime hold over foreign audiences. Some industry observes even go as far as to say if Cruises' current film doesn't pull in at least $200 million overseas, we could see a re-cast of the Ethan Hunt character by Paramount for M:I-4. So far overseas "Knight & Day" has opened solidly, though not spectacularly in China and India, taking in $4.8 million on 1,158 screens for its first weekend. Given the cost and hype, "Knight And Day" is not at setting the overseas boxoffice on fire, but key openings in the larger European markets and in Japan have yet to happen. MORE movies NEWS |
