George Clooney Leads The American To Number 1 At The Box Office

George Clooney's spy thriller "The American" opened at #1 this holiday weekend with an estimated take of $13.1 million while the ultra-violent "Machete" opened at number 2 with an estimated take of $11.4 million.Takers dropped to number 3 in it's second week with an estimated take of $10.9 million while last week's number 1 "The Last Exorcism" fell all the way to number 4 with an estimated take of $7.4 million. Rounding out the top 5 this week was Drew Barrymore's romantic comedy which opened with an estimated take of $6.9 million. The twelve estimated top-producing motion pictures for the weekend, per data collected as of Sunday, September 5, 2010 include: 1. The American: $13,127,000 2. Machete: $11,425,000 3.
