Hansel & Gretel Goes 3D; MGM Co-Finances & Developing Remakes
Reported by Outsiders - 12:22 AM 2011.02.19

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has decided to make the Tommy Wirkola film "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" into 3-D and is now set for a March 2, 2012, release date.

Hansel & Gretel 3D stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the title characters who, 15 years after their narrow fairy tale escape from the gingerbread house, become specialized bounty-hunters looking to take down the witches that almost killed them. Famke Janssen will play the leader of the witches.

MGM will co-finance because it's now run by the Spyglass Entertainment guys and they had a close relationship with Paramount for years.

Speaking of MGM, according to Variety, the studio is looking to push forward on development of remakes of "RoboCop" and "Mr. Mom." Besides these two remakes under development, MGM is also looking to do "Hercules" and "Poltergeist 4." Keep this as mostly talk since Variety got no comment from MGM and MGM isn't pulling in the green like it used too.
