Still on the fence as to which movie to see this weekend? Well, in one final attempt to grab your attention (and wallet), WB has released this three-minute extended trailer for their action-crime flick "Gangster Squad." Though most of the footage in this new preview has been shown before, it does paint a vivid picture of director Ruben Fleischer's LA crime thriller that's loosely based on the real "off-the-books" police squad who, in 1949, were appointed to hunt down the trigger-happy, mobster Mickey Cohen (portrayed by Oscar-winner Sean Penn).
Josh Brolin leads the team of hat-wearing officers that include Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie and Michael Pena. Also co-starring is Emma Stone (who reunites with her "Zombieland" helmer) as a flirtatious damsel who gets into a dicey love triangle between Gosling's hero cop and Penn's evil outlaw. The movie opens in theaters today.
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart. "Gangster Squad" is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
The Gangster Squad stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie
