When Earth becomes an ice planet, the last remaining humans are forced to live deep below the frozen surface. But as the years go colder and hungrier, they discover a new threat has emerged, putting humanity back in jeopardy. That's basically the meaty concept behind Jeff Renfroe's "The Colony," a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Bill Paxton and Laurence Fishburne as the opinionated leaders of a small underground society of survivors.
In the film's newly-released trailer (posted above), Paxton and Fishburne is seen butting heads over whether to check up a neighboring "colony" that has recently issued a distress call. It appears they've been attacked, unexpectedly. Yet, the question is, by whom or by what? Well, finding the answer may be way too risky, however it seems that wasn't a good enough reason to stop Fishburne from foolishly opening Pandora's box. Oh, the humanity!
The film is a Canadian-based production. So, no surprise that this one is coming to Canada next month, April 12th. As far as for an US release date -- we're still waiting for an official announcement.
The Colony follows a ragtag group of unfortunates struggling to survive amid the world's next ice age. Plagued by sickness and internal conflict, and running short on supplies, the members of Colony 7 suspect the worst when they manage to lose contact with the only known other survivors in neighboring Colony 5. When they set out to discover the fate of the others, the team discover a threat much worse than nature and desperately battle to save themselves in what just might be humanity’s last stand.
The Colony stars Bill Paxton, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Zegers, Charlotte Sullivan, John Tench, Atticus Dean Mitchell
