Will Smith Won't Be In New 'Independence Day' Movies

Reported by Outsiders - 2013.03.28

Director Roland Emmerich is stating that Will Smith will not be in the next two Indepedence Day movies, because he does not want Smith in the movies. Emmerich spoke with EW and was asked about the next "ID" movie. The director revealed that there are two new Independence Day movies in the works and that he does not want Smith in either movie because he is too big a star.

"I donít want to have Will. Heís too big for a movie like this. It would be a Will Smith movie," says the director, who is planning two sequels ó titled ID Forever Part 1 and ID Forever Part 2 ó which take place 20 years after the original alien invasion. "Itís Independence Day. And Independence Day was always not about one person. It was always a group thing. And [Will] is too big a star."

Emmerich does say that Smith's legacy will live on in the movie and one of the new main characters will be Hillerís stepson, Dylan. The character will not be played by Smith's son, Jaden as "heís a little too young," Emmerich commented and laughed.
