Evil Dead - 'Fede Alvarez And Sam Raimi' Featurette
Reported by Outsiders - 2013.04.02
Back in 2009, Uruguay-born director Fede Alvarez achieved instant internet fame when his giant robot-invasion short "Panic Attack!" became a viral sensation. The 4-minute CGI-laded movie was a great calling card. And it earned him the opportunity to work with one of his heroes (Sam Raimi) on a full-length film project. The result was "Evil Dead," the intensely gruesome redo about a group of friends who get trapped inside a cabin when they accidentally unleash ghastly demons from a cursed book. (The movie opens in theaters this Friday.)
If you believe that taking on such a beloved project would be almost blasphemous, well Alvarez admits in this new featurette (posted above) that he once felt that same way too. "I was watching TV at home. And there was some interview saying "They're going to remake Evil Dead." And I was like, "Ah, who's going to touch that classic -- that poor bastard," Alvarez recalls.
Raimi is also seen here, partaking in a discussion about Alvarez's unique vision for this new version. "He understands what makes a story work, and how to put the pieces together." Raimi later assures diehard fans that this new film has its own "voice" and "intensity," however it's also "outrageous just like how the first one was."
In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
Evil Dead stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore
