The first glance at this new full-length trailer and you would think that the upcoming gritty drama "Out of the Furnace," which stars Christian Bale, is set in some kind of post-apocalyptic world. But no, that's just how bad it's getting in these parts of rural America, where earning a decent buck is getting harder to find.
Here, Bale plays one such struggling blue-collar stiff named Russell Baze whose little brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) has just gotten back home after serving in Iraq. However, Rodney quickly gets himself mixed up in an underground fighting ring, working under a local crime boss (Woody Harrelson). But when Rodney refuses to take a simple dive for his boss man, he goes missing. And with the clueless police (led by Forest Whitaker) unable to find any witnesses to his disappearance, the case goes cold. Which infuriates Russell enough to take matters into his own hands.
Russell Baze (Christian Bale) has a rough life: he works a dead-end blue collar job at the local steel mill by day, and cares for his terminally ill father by night. When Russell's brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from serving time in Iraq, he gets lured into one of the most ruthless crime rings in the Northeast and mysteriously disappears. The police fail to crack the case, so - with nothing left to lose - Russell takes matters into his own hands, putting his life on the line to seek justice for his brother.
