Playing the titular Greek demigod, Twilight's Kellan Lutz flexes his muscles and gets to swing a mighty lightning-charged blade in the debut trailer for "Hercules: The Legend Begins," the upcoming sword-and-sandal actioner from director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2).
This three-minute-long preview, which has Lutz appearing alongside Aussie actor Liam McIntyre (Spartacus: War of the Damned) and English-born martial-artist Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2), made its debut this weekend at the New York Comic-Con, offering an early peek at the film that looks a lot like a hyper-stylized mixture between 300 and Gladiator. Here, Lutz plays Hercules as a prominent battlefield warrior who, after falling in love with his brother's soon-to-be bride, gets condemned to a life of slavery. Now forced to fight in the gladiator games, he finds his chances of survival are extremely slim -- but then again he is the son of Zeus, after all.
In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother. When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic -- a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit.
Hercules: The Legend Begins stars Kellan Lutz, Liam McIntyre, Scott Adkins, Johnathon Schaech, Roxanne McKee, Gaia Weiss, Rade Serbedzija
