Robocop (2014) - 'RoboCop Field Test'

Reported by Outsiders - 2014.01.17

In Paul Verhoeven's 1987 version of RoboCop, actor Peter Weller portrayed the high-tech lawman like a heavy-metal machine, mimicking the rigid movements of a robot. The upcoming remake, however, is taking on a different approach with the character by making him more human and giving him the same mobility as a normal police officer. Which is clearly evident in the first clip from director Jose Padilha's rebooted version (out on February 12th).

Gone are the days when RoboCop would stomp into a room with the grace and weight of a dinosaur. He is now an agile supercop (played by The Killing's Joel Kinnaman) who appears to be using his robotic machinery as a black-colored suit of armor, skillfully moving around a large warehouse as he guns down dummy robots in a "field test" analyzing his tactical precision. Unstoppable, unless a bullet manages to hit his face.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years -- and itís meant billions for OmniCorpís bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) -- a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit Ė is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Robocop 2013/2014 stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste

Release: February 12th, 2014
