A couple of months prior to his tragic death in November of last year, Paul Walker completed his work on an action film for renowned French action producer Luc Besson. Now, we're getting a peek at that film, as the very first trailer for "Brick Mansions" has been released online.
In one of his final two performances (the other being his partial filmed work on the next "Fast & Furious" movie), Walker stars as a hero cop who is forced to team up with a roof-jumping, street hood (French stunt performer David Belle) to retrieve a stolen neutron bomb that has been hidden somewhere in a large walled-off ghetto tenement controlled by a criminal cartel (led by rapper RZA).
If the premise sounds familiar, that's because "Brick Mansions" is actually the English-language remake of the cult French Parkour thriller "District B13 (aka Banlieue 13)" that also starred Belle. Camille Delamarre, a film editor who worked on Transporter 3, Colombiana and Taken 2, makes his directorial debut. The cast also includes Catalina Denis, Ayisha Issa, and Robert Maillet.
In a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier (Paul Walker) every day is a battle against corruption. For Lino (David Belle), every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin, Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino's girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they must stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city. With stylized action featuring thrilling Parkour stunts (David Belle is the co-founder of the physical training discipline), Brick Mansions puts an entertaining twist on the action genre.
