One of the surprise hits of last summer was writer-director James DeMonaco's high-concept-yet-low-budget thriller "The Purge," which was set in a not-too-distant future where a new government rule allowed the public to commit all sorts of crime and murder without any repercussions for a 12-hour period. And much of the film, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, followed a panic-stricken family as they tried to ward off creepy masked home invaders.
Well, it seems a sequel was quickly given the green light, as DeMonaco's new film -- this time focusing on a young, terrified couple, played by Zach Gilford (TV's Friday Night Lights) and Kiele Sanchez (TV's Lost), who are left stranded and vulnerable on the day of "the purge" after their car unexpectedly breaks down -- will be coming to theaters this summer, June 20th.
And going by the just-released teaser trailer for "The Purge: Anarchy", you can expect plenty more creepy masked villains. They're everywhere, seething with criminal tendencies.
