Gary, Justin & Sarah Talk About The New Knight Rider
Reported by Jay Cochran - 01:38 AM 2008.09.12

The new Knight Rider comes to Wednesday nights at 8:00 pm from NBC this seasons starting on September 24. Today, we had a chance to talk with the show’s Executive Producer, Gary Scott Thompson, along with the show’s stars Justin Bruening (Mike Tracer) and Deanna Russo (Sarah Graiman) about what we can expect from this latest incarnation of the classic series.

The series is set 25 years after the original series. Kitt, as with the recent 2-hour pilot will once again be voiced by Val Kilmer, who has been updated with new advance weaponry, a windshield that acts as a heads up display and can now transform from one vehicle to another. In one episode, Kitt will even experiment with invisibility. Knight Research and Development also has a new headquarters called the Satellite Surveillance Chamber (SSC), or more affectionately called by the team as the “Kitt Cave”. One of the things they can do at the cave is track Kitt anywhere in the world via a co-opted satellite.

Gary says that during the first season, Kitt will be going through a developmental stage like that of someone going from the 6th grade all the way through college. There will be a few “terrible teen” moments for Kitt like in the upcoming Halloween episode.

As for possible guest-stars, no one was really talking, but Gary did say that both he and NBC were currently in talks with David Hasselhoff about possibly making some more appearances like he had done in the 2-hour pilot.

When talking about the character development of the actors, both Justin and Deanna talked the potential for romantic tensions between the two characters as the show progresses. It will be a kind of will they- won’t they question.

Family also will play a large role in the series. There will be times where Justin’s character Mike will have to learn from his predecessor, while coming to see that the people around him like Sarah and her father are his new family. We will see Mike dealing with his time spent at war; there are several years of his life that he cannot remember that will play a key role throughout the series as things from his past might come back to haunt him.

Look for a lot of action and special effects from this series as they use a combination of CGI and real-life stunts while filming episodes. Justin mentioned that one of his opportunities to do some stunt driving ended when he crashed into a tree – an accident that he tried to blame on Kitt. The show has a budget that mirrors some feature films, so expect to see a lot of dazzling effects. Most the episodes will be fairly self-contained, and we can expect them to take on threats like terrorism that mirror the problems of today.

Are you looking forward to this new series? Share your thoughts below!!!

I just got mine in yesterday. The plane is the Conquest. There is also a white SHARC in the pic. I would assume that since they are being shown with the VAMP & Armidillo that they will be included with the 25th line.
