Family Guy's Brian Griffin Has Died At The Age Of 14

Reported by Outsiders - 2013.11.25

Brian Griffin, Family Guy's white Labrador has died at the age of 14 on Sunday, November 24th. Brian was killed when he was run-over in a hit-and-run accident in the episode, "Life Of Brian."

Showrunner Steve Callaghan told E! Online how they came up with this idea for the series and what happens now?

"This was an idea that got pitched in the writers room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up. As soon as this idea came up, we started talking about what the next couple episodes could be and we got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters."

The writers for the show felt it would be more of reality that a dog would get hit by a car, than if one of the kids died. They felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet. The kids, played by actors Mila Kunis and Seth Green were shocked to learn of the news but also glad to learn it wasn't their characters. Complicating the matters is the introduction of Brianís "replacement", new Griffin family dog Vinny voiced by Tony Sirico. The Sopranos alum was tapped for a slew of episodes ó six so far, with a possibility to do more or even become a regular, which would make Vinny a permanent fixture on the show.
