Sure, "Game of Thrones" made Sunday nights bloody, but horror guru Guillermo del Toro is going to make it pretty damn scary. The acclaimed filmmaker has turned his popular three-part vampire book series "The Strain" into a new horror series for the FX channel, which is set to launch next month, Sunday, July 13th. And you can now get a taste of some of the chilling moments from the del Toro-directed pilot episode as a new full-length, 90-second trailer has recently surfaced.
Executive-produced by del Toro, Chuck Hogan (co-author of "The Strain" novels) and showrunner Carlton Cuse (of "Lost" and "Bates Motel" fame), the show starts when a Boeing 777 lands in New York's JFK airport. A scientific team from the CDC -- played by Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Mia Maestro (Twilight) and Sean Astin (Lords of the Rings) -- is called in when every passenger on that flight is found dead or dying from some-kind of strange parasitic infection. Things get even more grim, when a mysterious Romanian vampire expert (Thrones' David Bradley) claims the virus has the power to wipe out the planet and must be stopped at all cost: "I seen this disease before. All the passengers, dead or alive, must be destroyed."
A thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
The Strain stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, David Bradley, Natalie Brown, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Sean Astin, Richard Sammel, Ben Hyland, Javier Botet, Doug Jones
