Electronic Arts has released some screenshots for their upcoming “G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra” based video game which is due out later this year.
The G.I. JOE video game will feature an exclusive storyline that picks up where the live-action movie leaves off, allowing players to re-create and re-live the greatest moments from the film, cartoon series and action figure toy line. The game will feature 12 G.I. JOE characters, each with unique abilities and weapons. Adding to the adrenaline rush will be an intense single-screen co-op mode allowing two players to easily unite as a team in a classic struggle between good and evil as they work together to defeat the powers of the COBRA organization. The G.I. JOE video game is under development for Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP (PlayStation Portable), Nintendo DS, and mobile devices.
I was given a brief demonstration of this game on the Xbox 360 system last month at Toy Fair. My initial impression was that the graphics are fairly decent but that game play looked fairly repetitive as all the character did was run around and shoot things, and wondered how long the game would be able to hold the attention of the gammer when playing it. Now granted I only got to watch as the EA representative played the game and the game was still in the developing stages, so keep in mind this was only my first impression of the game.
The game will sport features like having to pick specific characters based on their abilities or characteristics for certain levels. Like for instance if you need a character to lift something heavy you will want to be using someone like Heavy Duty as opposed to Snake-Eyes or Duke. There will also be a number of levels were you will be required to use vehicles though I did not get to witness any of those levels.
The game does feature 2-player game play however it does not appear that it will feature any online capabilities, at least not for the main console versions like Wii, PS3 or Xbox.
As for easter eggs, none were revealed, but I was given the impression that the odds were pretty good that you would be able to do things like unlock classic uniforms for your characters. Initially they all look as they will appear in the movie.
Check out the new screenshots below and stay-tuned in the coming weeks for more information on this game as it becomes available.
