It was an awesome episode (for what I got to see, my DVR inexplicably stopped recording it for the last 10 minutes), nice review! *thumbs up*

I LOVED the first half of the Strangers.
But I HATED the bookends -the ending almost kills all of the Awesome that the film builds up.

I saw this movie this weekend, and loved it.
The audience I was with was rolling.
The humor is crude and offensive but it's to be expected.
Probably not as good as the first film, and the racial humor takes a front seat in this one, as does the political satire. But if you liked the first film, this one does not disappoint.

I found the parasitic ivy an intriguing way to kill off the kids and/or drive them over the edge... and it was a bit reminiscent of Evil Dead and the attack of the tree branches (just a hair less subtle here).

The kicker is, I enjoye Wes Anderson's work, but didn't like "Darjeeling." Give me "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" anyway... but I guess they can't all be gold, right?

This is a film that I would categorize as a psychological horror movie with some extremely well performances from John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. Most of the movie’s setting takes place in the notoriously haunted Dolphin Hotel.
John Cusack plays a writer (Mike Enslin) known for solving the paranormal. Unconvinced that any place that he visits is haunted, he decides to check into the Dolphin Hotel ,known for numerous murders that occurred in the room 1408. After a very intriguing discussion with the hotel’s manager, (Samuel L. Jackson) he still decides to investigate room 1408. Not long after checking in, Mike Enslin encounters many disturbing events that lead him to believe that the room is haunted. He soon learns that checking out of 1408 is much more difficult than checking in.
Very effective lead performance from John Cusack makes the movie convincing. I would have liked to see more of Samuel L. Jackson, but his absence through the rest of the movie gives John Cusack a chance to shine, as he did. Great acting keeps the movie moving along at a brisk pace. A breakthrough performance from veteran actor John Cusack.
The creepy atmosphere of the room gives the movie an authentic effect. The setting was done so well that you actually feel like the events that are occurring are real. The design of the hotel was so elegant that it seems like any ordinary hotel, giving the viewer a realistic perspective of the movie. Great set design and creepy atmosphere.
Without exposing too much gore and maintaining a deserved PG-13 rating, this is a horror movie that is actually horrifying in a believable way. It’s flaws are overlooked thanks to a spectacular performance from a very underrated actor. Not the best Stephen King adaption but certainly is close. 1408 displays the way the horror genre was meant to be. I would recommend this movie to those looking for less brutality and more scares. 4/5 stars

“The Kingdom” is an action-thriller starring Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner among some other heavy-hitting actors. This polished production gets nine-points-out-of-ten from me—it is high-octane entertainment. Chris Cooper and Jeremy Pivens give it authenticity, while Jason Bateman provides comic relief. All actors deliver—Ashram Barhoum and Ali Suliman as Saudis as well as Garner and Foxx. My only complaints are of some over-dramatics ala “Crash” and a few too many explosions. Movies don’t need to be loud to make a point. Foxx and Garner together light up any screen, and good writing seals the deal. The plot was hard-to-follow at points, but this kept me interested.
The basic plot is four FBI agents investigate a terrorist attack on an American compound in Saudi-Arabia. There is plenty of ethnic tension, political wrangling, and combat along the way to complement the family stories and good humor. Parts of the story seem muddled, but the messages get through ultimately. Perhaps it is just a portrayal of the confusion that seems to rule on the ground in troubled regions.
Chris Cooper is the ultimate Hollywood Fed—great casting. You might remember him from the “Bourne” films. He is the paternal figure in the crew and quite up to the task. Jamie Foxx is versatile; he proves again to be a complete package. He can be tough and tender. The same is true for Jennifer Garner. She appears confident, capable and beautiful. Jeremy Pivens plays a diplomat well, and Jason Bateman excels here too.
This movie is another production from Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Heat). As usual, there is plenty of attention to detail. I think this is a step up from Vice, but not as good as “Heat”. “Heat” really is a perfect action-drama. “The Kingdom” does have most of the strengths that Heat does.
This movie is entertaining and thoughtful. At first I felt it was too political, but you have to get a plot from somewhere. The message it leaves you with is simple—fight when you have to but not at the expense of your humanity. Are you really that different than the “enemy”?
