Home » Movies   · Next Review » Blood Diamond Reviewed by maroon5gurl88 - Sun December 24, 2006 “Blood Diamond” is a film I had incredibly high hopes for but sadly left the theater wanting more. Following a diamond smuggler, a reporter, and a simple farmer, the three main story arcs do their best to make the most of what they have. The storyline involving farmer Solomon Vandy is probably the best in the film, his quest to get his son back from rebels is the most compelling although the actor in the part tends to overact at times. Leonardo DiCaprio is horribly miscast as a South African mercenary, his accent alone will cause you to leave the film and focus on it. Jennifer Connelly, normally an amazing actress, is wasted in this film. A love story that is set up between her and DiCaprio’s character feels extremely forced, and at the end doesn’t lead to anything of importance. supersize The actual story is fast paced, you get caught up in the characters and want them to succeed but I would have enjoyed learning more about the actual corporations involved in the trade, a subplot that is only hinted on. Vandy’s son living with the rebels is another subplot that wasn’t fully fleshed out. In the end, the film has some great action and compelling characters but a overextended story with a couple shallow characters, just isn’t worth the effort.
