Foo Fighters: Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace

Reviewed by NobleSavage - Wed October 24, 2007

After weeks of hearing the Foo Fighters' new single, "The Pretender", I decided to pick up their latest album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace" to see if the rest of the tunes lived up to this great song.

"The Pretender" is the opening track, and it starts the album off on a rocking high note, which doesn't exactly carry through the rest of the album, but that's not a bad thing. Many of the songs delve into beautiful acoustics and vocal harmonies. Vocalist Dave Grohl delivers enough of his classic screams to the songs, but it seems that the guy really knows his voice talents at this point in his career. His overall delivery is as flawless and solid as the music.

One of the more interesting points on the album is the acoustic instrumental, "The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners", an intriguing tune that invokes similarities to Led Zepplin.

Other songs, like "Statues" might even remind the listener of a little of John Lennon, with its classical piano sound.

Yes, the Foo's really show their full range of talent on their latest album... and while its nothing groundbreaking overall, it is still a great album, and the most accomplished work by the band to date. You might even forget that goofy drummer in Nirvana years ago while listenting to this serious, classic album.

What's the verdict? The album is solid. It may not live up to the standards of fan favorite "The Colour and the Shape", but is still a great album in its own right. Nothing groundbreaking musically... but certainly a good listen for any music enthusiast.

Pick it up, kick back and study the lyrics... then make sure you go catch one of the Foo Fighters' live sets, which is where this style of music, arena-rock at its finest, will really come to life.
