ENI REVIEW

Reviewed by Jay on Sun October 5, 2008

This Target exclusive version of the Iron Man 2-Disc DVD set contains the same content as the regular retail-released version. What makes this set unique is the packaging which seems to be a new, developing trend for DVD’s. Instead of the traditional amaray case, this set comes in packaging designed to look like Iron Man’s helmet. The facemask opens to reveal the two discs inside.

As for the extensive special features included on the actual discs, as I say they are the same as those released on the 2-Disc version sold at general retail. There are seven featurettes on the second disc that go into extensive detail about how this movie was made and the passion director Jon Favreau had for making it. I have to say it was really cool for me to see how the suits used in the movie actually came into being from concept designs to working models created by Stan Winston Studios. You also get a real sense of how the story evolved and changed over the course of production, for instance we learn The Mandarin originally was going to play a role in this first movie along with Iron Monger. As we now know, the focus changed with only Iron Monger as the villain for this movie.

Other features included deleted/extended scenes which are always fun to see. Additional featurettes give you additional background on the characters and stories that have helped shape the Iron Man universe in the comic books over the years. Some featurettes focused on the actors and how they tested and rehearsed for their roles in this movie.

If you are an Iron Man fan or just interested in seeing how all the pieces come together in making a big budget block-buster like this movie then I recommend you check out this 2-Disc set. If you’re an Iron Man collector then the Target exclusive version makes a nice edition for your collection.
