The Story: Sookie deals with Sam’s revelation to her and doesn’t take it how he expects. Tara has her exorcism but learns some shocking secrets about Ms. Jeanette. Amy and Jason decide Stockholm syndrome is the only way to deal with Eddie but when Amy’s true nature is unmasked things go horribly wrong. Bill is placed in front of the vampire tribunal for murdering a vampire and is given a task that goes against his nature. All the residents of Bon Temps meet at Arlene and Rene’s engagement party.
Pros: With only two episodes left in the season this episode doesn’t try to pull any big punches, reserving those for the two big episodes of the season. That doesn’t mean that this episode is weak, just that the biggest shock is saved for the end. The ending of this episode sets a bunch of things in motion and you really question how Bill is going to be at the end. This episode seems to move so rapidly, while not doing any huge things that you want it to be longer. With Bill being pushed to the side you really focus on Sookie, Jason, Tara and Arlene. While the first three characters have had heavy plotlines this season I enjoyed the focus on Arlene and Rene this episode. They are two of the more easy-going characters and Arlene is just a fun character. Sam’s unusual ability is finally revealed and while it might be a bit anticlimactic for some it was great to learn some backstory on him, his childhood was the best flashback I’ve seen in a long time. I also loved the reveal on Ms. Jeanette which wasn’t held off until the end. While I loved Sookie this episode, especially with her daring escape from the killer I was riveted to the issues with Amy, Jason, Eddie and Lafayette. The ending of their story is a gasp worthy moment and will make you love to hate Amy’s character. On second thought this episode is filled with big climaxes but they meld so well into the story you don’t notice them. The vampire tribunal was the most interesting as it looked like something out of Mad Max. While it’s not the big setup of the episode hopefully we’ll be exploring more of it next week if the ending is any indication.
Cons: I did mention this episode is a bit meandering and it is. There is a lot of dialogue and a lot of loose threads that will be further explored in the last two episodes. The big shocks with Sam and Ms. Jeanette were anticlimactic to me because I discovered them within the first few episodes. If you think you knew what they were then you’re probably right. I also really missed Bill because it caused Sookie to mope throughout the entire episode. It’s not that Anna Paquin didn’t do her best but her character just sat throughout the whole episode.
Overall: “I Don’t Wanna Know” is a relaxing calm before the storm of the final two episodes of the season. It’s going to be a wild rollercoaster and this episode is the start. I give it a 4/5.
