The Story: Vince continues to butt heads with his director Verner who is constantly critiquing the actor’s facial tics. Eric is put between a rock and a hard place when his client Charlie’s pilot is picked up…with former rival Seth Green in the cast. Ari attempts to get Barbara to put Andrew in the agency. Turtle and Drama are kicked off the set at Verner’s insistence.
Pros: What Entourage has lacked in laughs this season it has made up for in story and this episode is no exception. I continue to enjoy Vince’s exploits on the set of Smoke Jumpers because it seems to follow a real Hollywood star, much like the earlier seasons did. This plotline has allowed star Adrien Grenier to portray Vince as he is and not like the spoiled star he became in later seasons. Stellan Skarsgard continues to steal the show as the crazy German director Verner and this episode was great as he told Vince he had head tilts that weren’t there. The way these two have clashed seems very reminiscent of past actor/director disputes and it really furthers the show. Having Seth Green return was funny if only for the big fight that was due to come at the end. Fans of the first Seth Green fight will love this one as it doesn’t go down as expected. Beverly D’Angelo finally gets screen time and it’s amazing. Her character has always added an interesting female dynamic to oppose Ari and their fight at the end, at a female power luncheon of all places, makes for some hilariously inappropriate one-liners on Ari’s part. This episode was all about getting back to basics and it’s about time.
Cons: The cameos of Seth Green and former guest Emmanuelle Chiriqui seemed to go nowhere. Chiriqui is only in it for a second and only to give the hint that Eric and she might rekindle their romance, while Green plays the jerk character from his past episode. They could have been used to better effect but it just seemed like they were thrown in to make you remember them. While I continue to say Turtle and Drama serve no purpose this episode was probably the worst to show that as they are kicked off the set and not shown again until the end. If they are merely going to be bookends to the episodes it might be time to say goodbye to their characters next season.
Overall: “Seth Green Day” is a strong episode that continues to allow Entourage to flesh out story. With only two episodes left in the season it’s anybody’s guess on whether the show can come back after this lackluster season. I give the episode a 3.5/5.
