Entourage - Return to Queens Blvd (Season Finale)

Reviewed by maroon5gurl88 - Tue November 25, 2008

The Story: The boys decide to head back home to New York after Vince’s firing. Eric tries like hell to get Vince cast in the new Gus Van Sant film despite Ari saying it’s a bad idea. Vince and Eric come to blows.

Pros: I have to say the season ending of Entourage definitely ended on an optimistic note. This episode moves very quickly and doesn’t mince words but just sets up the main core of next season; mainly Vince’s casting in the latest Martin Scorsese movie. I did enjoy knowing what lies ahead for next season. I have to give Jerry Ferrara props this episode as Turtle. Poor Turtle spends the entire episode trying to spend some quality time with Jaime-Lynn over the phone leading to a disastrous encounter with his mother that was the highlight of the episode. Turtle has really grown in scope the last couple episodes so hopefully the writers finally know what to do with him and will develop him as the new season starts. I’ve always loved when the characters mom’s were on and this episode really played them up. Vince and Turtle’s mom have some scene stealing moments that were cute and funny. There are two huge cameos this episode that I thought were brilliant and hopefully the A-list stars will be coming back next season. Directors Gus Van Sant and Martin Scorsese both play themselves and while they aren’t used to comedic effect it again returns the show to that level of realism about the inner workings of Hollywood. I have to say I was hoping Vince and Eric would have parted ways just to give the show a shot at something new but they seem to be playing it fairly safe this season so of course that did not pan out.

Cons: I really thought Entourage would go out with a bang, but like the rest of the season it meanders along, never packing any big punches. Drama is practically nonexistent in this episode and honestly they need to just remove him if no one is going to do anything with his character. The episode makes a big deal of Eric and Vince splitting only to neatly put them back together before the episode ends. It almost felt like some writers went one way while the rest went another only to come back and throw everything in. The ending also seemed to imply two things that I didn’t like. They seemed to be wiping the slate clean with Vince’s new picture that he’s happy about. It almost felt like the writers were saying “Sorry for this season, we’ll do better because of this.” On the flipside it also felt like a complete restart of the series with Vince being “rediscovered” in a sense. Either way it’s not what I expected but at this stage I don’t know what I expected Entourage to do.

Overall: With the season over it’s really hard to gauge whether Entourage has run its course or can blossom next season. I’ll be debating over the break whether to return for more and cover it for all you here but until then I give “Return to Queens Blvd” a paltry 3/5.
