Left 4 Dead

Reviewed by Outsiders - Fri December 12, 2008

Give me a shotgun, an extra box of ammo and about hundred zombies and I am ready for a night of non-stop action!

Left 4 Dead is the latest Co-Op shooter from Valve for both the PC and XBox 360, which plays out and feels more along the lines of a new Zombie horror flick than just another shoot if it moves game. Now in most games anyone can figure out that something has gone wrong in the world by it being some disease in the air or something in the water but in this game, it doesn't really matter because in this game, it's either stay alive or become a brain eater.

The game has two modes of game-play. You can either play the missions in a single player mode and can choose to be one of the 4 main characters and the rest of the characters become your AI team-mates or you and 3 of your buddies can play online using the STEAM connection and can play out the missions as a 4 man team.

Single player mode or online mode allows you to play the same missions and each mission consist of 5 stages. All the missions play out to parts of a movie so each stage is the same type of feeling as the last surrounding. You will explore territory such as sewers, cities, subways, airports, farms and any other place you can think a Zombie will snack on some brains.

One nice thing about the game is even in single player mode, your AI team-mates are not idiots. They will help you, shoot for you and bandage you or give you drugs to help you heal up during the way and you can do the same for them. Sure, they can die if you don't help them but having them around might just save your life.

The gameplay is fast and furious at times with dozens and dozens of Zombies coming out of nowhere among with other types of disease infested monsters. When this happens, you just have the feeling that you want to blast away until nothing is left moving but that isn't always the smartest move since the more you blast away, the more this makes sounds and the more Zombies will arrival. Soon you will become so over run that it will get you killed rather quickly.

Keep in mind that this game is a shooter and doesn't play out like your typical Zombie games such as Resident Evil so it's mostly about stocking up on ammo and surviving than trying to solve puzzles or problems. The only downfall I didn't like about the game was that the game did not save and you could jump to any stage of any mission at any given time.

Overall, this is a great shooter that you can play by yourself and be scared half to death or you can play it online with your buddies and watch them be eaten to death!
