ENI REVIEW

Reviewed by maroon5gurl88 on Wed February 18, 2009

The Story: Nathan seeks funding from Homeland Security operative Abby Collins (Moira Kelly), but Tracy’s imprisonment isn’t convincing her. Claire and Noah continue to butt heads as they both want comic geek Alex for their own purposes. Sylar and Luke are still on the road in search of Sylar’s father. Hiro and Ando try to decipher a dream painting that involves an Indian woman forced to marry a man she doesn’t love.

Pros: I enjoyed how there were only three main storylines this episode, it was easy to digest everything and I wasn’t utterly confused when everything was said and done. Hands down the addition of Moira Kelly was the highlight of the episode. As a fan of her it’s great to see her in the series and hopefully she’ll be in more than just a single episode. There was a slight glimmer of hope that Nathan’s madness would be coming to an end when Abby tells Nathan he’s violating people’s human rights (something I’ve been wanting to shout since this plotline started) and it was wonderful to see that there was someone willing to stand up to him. Best line of the night had to be Sylar admitting he’s a serial killer after Luke told him the criteria of being one. That was probably the first laugh out loud moment I’ve had with the series for awhile. Noah really stole the episode completely, mainly at the end. I’ve always enjoyed when he shows pure fatherly devotion to Claire (some of the highlights of season one were those moments) and the ending with him and Claire was so sweet and touching. If the scenes next week show we’ll probably be getting some great Noah Bennett amazing-ness.

Cons: I had a big issue with the story this episode. The biggest issue I had was with Abby’s turn towards Nathan’s side at seeing Tracy escape. She couldn’t maybe put two and two together that woman being trapped like an animal does not equal a rational escape? Maybe if she had struggled with the decision for a bit instead of immediately turning I would have understood. I also don’t understand Sylar’s daddy issues being this prevalent. The man’s a serial killer yet he needs to go on a road trip with a disturbed teenager to find his papa? I just think it’s a bit hokey and I’m not enjoying it at all, especially all the cheese at the end with Sylar returning to “rescue” Luke. I also didn’t jive with Hiro and Ando this week. I know it was reminiscent of season one episodes with them but maybe after seeing them do other things for so long I’m not used to it yet.

Overall: This episode was certainly not as bad as it could have been but I didn’t consider it one of the best. I give it a 3/5.
