That golden nugget of wisdom has never rung more true then in Taken starring Liam Neeson. Liam plays the role of Bryan Mills, A retired self proclaimed "Protector" aka spy. He has moved to be closer to his daughter Kim, played by Maggie Grace. The two are somewhat estranged, Bryan having put his job and his country before his family and in doing so costing him his marriage (Famke Janssen). Regardless, he still cares deeply for his daughter and though he seems overprotective, it's for good reason. When his daughter goes on a trip to Paris with her friend, things get ugly and she is... taken. Sorry, I couldn't help but make that pun.
From that point on, Bryan goes on a thrilling ride of finding who the bad guys are and then killing them before going on to the next ones. His rampage to recover his daughter puts him at odds with his old acquaintance within the Paris police force, but he is always a step ahead. The movie knows how to deliver the punches with fantastic close-quarter fight scenes, Liam Neeson did a fantastic job having been instructed in Nagasu Do by Mike Gould for the film. When the film slows down it does so without boring the audience, dishing out every clue to further along the plot and keep the blood on Bryan's fists from drying.
I cannot for the life of me find any fault in this movie aside from the occasional continuity error (tie in one scene, no tie in another, etc), but those complaints are so minor and few and far between they hardly matter. The acting is superb. The action is superb. There is no reason this disc shouldn't be spinning in your DVD/Blu-Ray player right now.
Special Features are the regular commentary, making of featurette, etc. The unrated version has a bonus special feature however, a picture-in-picture thing which is a nice add-on. It also looks great in Blu-Ray.
So go get Taken. It is surely worth the purchase. Taken stars Liam Nesson and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, disturbing thematic material, some drug references, sexual content and language. It is brought to you by Twentieth Century Fox, Europa Corp M6 Films and Grive Productions. It is directed by Pierre Morel. I give it 5 out of 5!
