ENI REVIEW

Reviewed by Jay on Thu October 22, 2009

With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, you get more bang than plot for your buck – which isn’t all bad when you are watching it on your big flat screen TV and Blu-ray player (especially when it’s the Wal-Mart exclusive widescreen version with IMAX scenes).

The English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, 5.1 Dolby Surround, 5.1 Dolby TrueHD is crisp and clear. You feel like you are in the middle of a war zone during many of the action sequence, and the detail on the robots are very clear even more than what I remember seeing on the big screen. One scene that stood out in particular was Optimus Prime’s battle with the one-wheeled Decepticon on the highway overpass in Shanghai at the beginning of the movie.

The overall plot for Transformers 2 was not nearly as good as the first movie, but the action sequences far surpass those of Transformers.

This Wal-Mart exclusive is a two disc set with most of the special features located on disc 2. A look back at the last 25 years of Transformers is chock full of interviews from the Hasbro Transformers brand team who work on the toys. A fairly detailed “making of” documentary shows you everything from how the story was developed to how the robots are made and all the exotic locations shot in the film (like the Pyramids of Egypt). I found this documentary to be very fascinating and enjoyed it almost as much as watching the movie.

The feature I liked the least was the deleted scenes. There was only four – mostly dealing with Sam’s parents and none of them very interesting.

Other features include a music video by Linkin Park for the song New Divide and a feature called “Giant Effing Movie” which is a simplified version of the “Making Of” feature with some comedic moments thrown in.

Transformers 2 made a ton of money this summer at the box office but was slammed by critics and fans alike. When it comes down to it, I think the movie though not perfect still makes a nice addition to your Blu-ray library.
