The Men Who Stare At Goats is a story about one reporters discovery of a top-secret division of the U.S. Army called the First Earth Battalion which basically translates into a bunch of hippie-type characters who fancy themselves as Jedi-like warriors because they believe they have psychic abilities.
The movie primarily focuses on the characters of Lyn Cassady (George Clooney) who is the most powerful of the psychic group and Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor), a small-time newspaper reporter desperately trying to find a story and a purpose in life.
The story is chock-full of one-liners and comedic moments, many of which you can see in the full-length trailer of the movie, with a fairly weak plot that seems to be there only to loosely tie together the comedic one-liners. Several of those one-liners play on the choice of Ewan McGregor to play Wilton. Snickers rolled through the theater as Clooney urges McGregor to get in touch with his Jedi.
The movie has a great cast that includes Clooney and McGregor along with Jeff Bridges who plays the monk-like mentor to the First Earth Battalion and Kevin Spacey who plays the back stabbing bad guy of the group. All do a great job on their own and with the comedic moments, but do little to tie the movie together and make it an overall enjoyable story.
If you are looking for a few good laughs, well honestly I would just recommend you watch the trailer for this movie and then wait for it to come out on DVD.
