Human Target - Christopher Chance (Season Finale)

Reviewed by maroon5gurl88 - Fri April 16, 2010

Human Target says farewell with an episode that actually seeks to answer all the questions fans would want to know! Who is Katherine Walters? Who is Christopher Chance? How did Chance, Guerrero and Winston all come together? All will be answered along with giving audiences new questions to think up, that hopefully will be answered with a second season.

When the men who hired Chance to kill Katherine Walters (Amy Acker) return for a mysterious object they believe Chance has, it will force him to remember the girl and how it brought him together with Guerrero and Winston. Things are further complicated when Chance’s old boss Joubert (Armand Assante) returns and tries to get Chance back into the fold.

For all the sentimentality and cheese that cropped up with this episode there’s no doubt it was highly entertaining. A slew of special guests rocked their time on-screen, mainly Lee Majors and Acker. Majors was perfect as the original Christopher Chance, a name we learn those who are in trouble grab to help them out. The original Chance was a fighter through and through and the great thing was there’s so much about HIS character that would be interesting to see! Acker has become a FOX regular on several shows and hopefully there’s room for her on the series. There seems to be so much more about Katherine Walters bubbling under the surface. Beneath that sweet exterior seemed to be a lot of secrets and the possibility that Walters wasn’t as innocent as she claimed. Having all the Chance enemies and friends present and accounted for was also fun, mainly the return of Baptiste this episode who continues to be such a deranged villain. The big fight with Guerrero was hilarious especially considering the man has never exhibited too much fighting ability and here he was more than capable of handling Chance. With the arrival of Joubert this opens the door of Chance having to juggle two roles, the mercenary and the savior, and there’s plenty of room for issues to arise from that if Chance decides to get back into bed with his former employer.

The story was highly romanticized this week, something that isn’t usually an issue but came across as overbearing. Yes it was cute to watch Katherine, Chance and a puppy version of Carmine, but after a few days they were practically ready to get married. It’s not unusual for Chance to walk off into the sunset with a random woman of the week, but here it just came off as artificial and cheesy. The few scenes with Guerrero were utterly laughable in how bad they were, mainly because he started every sentence with “Dude.” After awhile it just seemed like either poor acting or poor writing.

There’s a lot of debate whether Human Target will be returning to FOX next season, especially considering the ratings for this particular episode were pretty low. The series has always had potential so hopefully FOX will allow next season to expand on what’s been started. This finale answered a lot to leave audiences satisfied, but there was an open door to keep everything fresh if and when it returns.
