Penny Dreadful - 'A Place In The Shadows' Teaser

Reported by Outsiders - 2014.01.17

Look who's back on our radar: Josh Hartnett. After years of laying low, Hartnett returns this spring with Showtime's new high-profile horror drama "Penny Dreadful."

Appearing alongside Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, and Harry Treadaway, Hartnett stars as a mysterious American living in Victorian-era London who enters a shadow world populated by an array of classic monsters, including Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dracula. You can have a small taste of the scripted thriller as Showtime has unveiled a new teaser trailer with actual footage (embedded above).

Slated for eight episodes, "Penny Dreadful" was conceived by John Logan, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of "Gladiator," "The Aviator" and "Hugo" -- he also penned the recent James Bond blockbuster "Skyfall." Speaking of which, "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes is serving as executive producer while J.A. Bayona, the Spanish-born helmer of "The Impossible" and "The Orphanage," directs the first two episodes.

In Penny Dreadful, some of literature's most famously terrifying characters -- including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light -- have become embroiled in Victorian London.

Penny Dreadful stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Harry Treadaway, Billie Piper, Danny Sapani

Release: May 11th, 2014 (on Showtime)
